Soil Carbon in Alpine Grasslands

In species-rich high-altitude grasslands, productivity and soil carbon stocks will change in response to the future climate.

In the surroundings of the municipality of Sent in the Lower Engadine, and as part of the AlpESS Project, we are investigating how modern irrigation options and management approaches contribute to carbon storage. This will enable us to learn how best to promote greenhouse-gas sinks and soil humus stocks.
