The use of antibiotics is not permitted in Switzerland; moreover, no other medication exists to combat European foul brood. Hives with symptoms must therefore be destroyed in order to limit the outbreak, and the contaminated material must be sanitised. Since prevention is the best cure, early detection is desirable. Numerous studies have been undertaken and documents have been created at the Swiss Bee Research Centre and elsewhere to draw the attention of beekeepers to these problems and inform them about the causes and the control measures to be implemented.

Analyse von Mikrobiomen und funktionell besonders relevanter Isolate unter dem Leitsatz «Vom Genom zur Funktion»

Portfolio: Bioinformatische Analyse und Integration von Daten die mittels Methoden der funktionellen Genomik (zB Genomsequenzierung, Transkriptom-, Proteom-, Metabolomanalysen) erhoben wurden; Einbezug der vergleichenden Genomik. Mitarbeit in nationalen und internationalen Konsortien (u.a. bei der Kompostmikrobiomanalyse; Identifizierung und Charakterisierung von Biocontrolstämmen zur Reduktion Einsatz Pflanzenschutzmittel sowie Förderung Pflanzenwachstum). Synergie mit Drittmittelforschung: Entwicklung integrierter Systeme zur Erforschung von Antibiotikaresistenz und Biofilmbildung; Entwicklung von Methoden zu verbesserten Genomannotation von Prokaryoten; Identifizierung neuer Biokontrollgene und antimikrobiell wirkender Peptide.

Thematischer Fokus: Prokaryoten, Biokontrolle, Plant growth promotion, Interaktion Pflanzen-Mikroorganismen, fermentierte Lebensmittel, Antibiotikaresistenz und Biofilmbildung

Methodischer Fokus: Assemblierung von Genomen (de novo), Synergie Genomik -Metagenomik, Transkriptomik, Proteomik, intergierte Datenanalyse, Entschlüsselung von Wirkmechanismen
