To analyse interactions between farm types, product categories, farming systems and regions in terms of their sustainability, Agroscope carries out life cycle assessments and profitability analyses. These analyses require detailed farm data based on surveys and extensive data collections such as the ‘Life Cycle Assessment – Farm Accountancy Data Network (LCA-FADN)’.
Such work provides a basis for increasing the sustainability of farms. To give an example, as part of the project ‘Cantogether’, innovative farming systems are proposed that more successfully combine livestock production and crop farming and are particularly economically and ecologically beneficial.
