Assessment of the sustainability of production systems and farms is a key prerequisite for making the agricultural sector more sustainable and thereby creating the basis for a future-proof agricultural sector. In this context, it is important to take all three dimensions of sustainability – environmental, economic and social aspects – into account.
Various stakeholders from the spheres of food production, processing and retailing as well as consumers are calling for practical methods for depicting sustainability sufficiently precisely with the help of assessment schemes. In response, Agroscope has developed the SALCAsustain method for measuring a farm’s sustainability.
