Zusammenfassung:

Broadening the genetic basis in apple breeding by using apple genetic resources as parents in crosses is a promising approach to achieve more diversity in fruit quality and disease and pest resistance. Projects in Switzerland with Agroscope and Poma Culta as breeding partners and ‘FRUCTUS’ involved in the evaluation of fruit genetic resources allow for a more exhaustive incorporation of traditional varieties in apple breeding.
