Wabe mit Bienenbrot und Nectar

The honey bee owes its ecological and economic success to its ability to store plant-food reserves. Pollen and nectar are stored in the honeycomb cells to enable the survival of the colony when climatic conditions prohibit foraging. This is the case during the season when the weather does not permit bee flight or limits available resources, as well as in winter. Pollen collected from the anthers of flowers is deposited directly in the cells for final storage, whilst nectar is first processed into honey.
