Maximum formation potential of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) calculated based on annual sales data for pesticide active ingredients in Switzerland from 2008 to 2023.
Annual sales data for pesticide active ingredients sold in Switzerland in the years 2008 to 2023 were screened to identify all substances containing fluorine in the molecular structure. All substances authorized and sold during this time period and that contain -CF2- and/or -CF3 groups were identified and categorized as PFAS substances according to the definition of OECD 2021. Maximum anual formation potential of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) from all potential precursor substances was calculated, assuming instant and quantitative transformation.
