New Book on Promising Agroforestry Systems for Switzerland

Buch Agroforstpraxis in der Schweiz

This foundational work highlights the benefits and challenges of various agroforestry systems and offers a wealth of tips for agricultural practitioners. Experts from Agroscope, Agridea and ZHAW present their wide-ranging experiences.

Agroforestry in Switzerland combines traditional grassland, arable farming or animal husbandry with trees and shrubs. Modern agroforestry systems, which have been gaining ground for several years, increasingly use other tree and shrub species in addition to the previous fruit varieties. New plant designs are better suited to modern agricultural machinery, making the combined cultivation of field crops and trees economically attractive.

This book pays particular attention to the planting and maintenance of agroforestry systems as well as to examples of their implementation which outline the varied ways in which they can be incorporated into commercial farms. The authors also address the role agroforestry systems might play in future as part of a sustainable agricultural sector.

The book Agroforstpraxis in der Schweiz (in German) will be published on 13 January 2025 by Haupt Verlag. It is already available for order at the link below.

Authors: Christina den Hond-Vaccaro, Felix Herzog, Johanna Schoop, Lisa Nilles, Mareike Jäger und Sonja Kay.
