In view of global population growth, the changing economic environment and the increasing demands of society, the agricultural sector is faced with the challenge of maintaining or even increasing primary production, improving competitiveness, and ensuring the provision of ecosystem services. In view of dwindling resources, there is also a need to improve resource efficiency in agricultural production as well as to reduce the use of plant-protection products without jeopardising product quality and safety.

By utilising new technologies and innovations and making targeted use of natural processes and regulating mechanisms, we aim to further develop sustainable production systems and cultivation methods that demonstrate high resource efficiency and use significantly lower amounts of plant-protection products. Cultivation methods and post-harvest processes are being developed that reduce production costs whilst enhancing product quality and uniqueness, to improve the competitiveness and added value of arable and special crops.
