Agroscope bears responsibility at national level for Switzerland’s genetic resources.
The United Nations have set up a global action plan for preserving plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. As a signatory state, Switzerland has developed a national action plan according to the international guidelines. The most important activities within the context of this plan are the listing of plant genetic resources, the selection of varieties and accessions according to defined criteria, custom-tailored and sustainable upkeep, morphological description, and genetic identification and confirmation of varietal identity.
