AlgoScope microalgae collection

The collection in brief

The AlgoScope microalgae collection was established in 2022 as part of the Algafeed project. This project aims to replace imported soya proteins for livestock feed with microalgae proteins produced directly on farms.

As part of this project, indigenous microalgae are isolated from various natural and agricultural habitats. The goal is to identify the local strains of microalgae that are best suited for producing protein-rich feed for livestock and to assess their biotechnological potential for further applications.

The selection process is based on the nutrient composition and technological properties of the microalgae for feed production. The collection mainly focuses on freshwater eukaryotic microalgae.
