Soil structure – Its importance for soil quality and management success, and measures for its preservation and improvement

18-15-19-03-01

Soil structure influences soil quality and functions to a considerable extent, and is significantly shaped by agricultural management. Important aspects of soil structure research are

  1. mechanical load / deformation processes
  2. anthropogenic and natural structural formation processes
  3. the quantification of soil quality and soil functions, and
  4. assessment of the potentials and risks of soil use as a function of site properties.

In addition to the development of methods and indicators and an increased understanding of process, our priority is the implementation of scientific findings for use by policy-makers and practitioners. This involves direct and indirect indicators for monitoring and sustainability assessment, decision-making bases and aids, and fact sheets.
