By exploring the mechanisms of weed suppression through catch crops, we contribute to the development of cropping systems with reduced use of PPPs. Our aim is to find and identify new allelochemical substances in the root exudates of catch crops, and to discover which species have allelopathic effects in the field, and how they can be used in practice. We also track the development and spread of invasive neophytes in agriculture, and devise control strategies where necessary. Furthermore, we examine suspected cases of herbicide resistance in Swiss agriculture as a prerequisite for developing successful anti-resistance strategies.
