In Switzerland - as in many industrial nations - horsekeeping has increased significantly in the past 20 years, with a majority of the horses to be found in the agricultural zone. Although horses are only of marginal importance in Switzerland as working animals, the rearing and boarding of these animals generates agricultural income. The horse has been losing importance in agricultural training for decades now. With its Horse Advisory Agency and its initial and continuing education courses for horsekeepers on farms and for the entire equine sector, Agroscope Swiss National Stud is an important support in all matters to do with the keeping, reproduction and breeding of horses. The Swiss National Stud also supports technical colleges and universities in knowledge transfer and in the development of teaching resources.
