2016 Eucarpia Exkursion

Eucarpia General Congress a great success

Eucarpia – the European Association for Research on Plant Breeding – held its twentieth general congress in summer 2016 at the ETH Zurich. This was the first time that the Congress, which Agroscope helped to organise, was held in Switzerland. The 420 participants from 48 countries built bridges between the different disciplines under the motto “Plant breeding – the art of bringing science to life’. To support its selection decisions, the art of practical plant breeding increasingly takes advantage of the knowledge and tools of molecular genetics, the measurement techniques summarised under the term ‘phenomics’, and advanced bioinformatics methods.

IDF Cheese Science & Technology Symposium 2016

Every four years, one of the most important international symposia on all aspects of cheese and milk research is held. Around 450 participants from industry, crafts, business, teaching and research travelled to Dublin for the IDF Cheese Science & Technology Symposium 2016, at which Agroscope presented its research activity in the form of five lectures and three posters. Patrizia Ascone was awarded the prize for best presentation for her talk on biogenic amines. The research group centred around Dominik Guggisberg was honoured by the inclusion of the article on eye formation in cheese (2015) in the International Dairy Journal’s special edition featuring the 25 best articles from the past 25 years. The following links lead to the presentation slides.
