Agrarökosysteme und Klimarisiken
The RISC project (Reflection, Innovation, Climate Support) helps farmers adapt to climate risks like drought, heatwaves, heavy rain, and waterlogging. Active from 2022 to 2029, it supports the Vaud Climate Plan and is mandated by the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture’s “Natural Resources” program. Partners include Mandaterre, HAFL, FiBL, and ETH.
RISC focuses on six key areas: crop yield stability, food self-sufficiency, erosion control, soil compaction, agroecosystem diversity, and farm management. Biodiversity is central to resilience, and habitat diversity is assessed on 42 farms in Vaud using geospatial and agronomic data via the BioBio method (Biodiversity indicators for organic and low-input farming systems, EU FP7, KBBE-227161, 2009-2012).
A key feature is personalized feedback to farmers, showing habitat diversity trends and suggesting improvements. RISC also supports policy-making by providing scientific evidence on how biodiversity responds to climate adaptation strategies.
