OptiSpray: Optimierte und innovative Applikationstechnologie

Ensuring the quality of plant protection product (PPP) applications is critical for efficacy, operator safety, and environmental protection, yet it remains insufficiently addressed in practice. Since 2016, Agroscope has conducted pioneering research on UAV-based spraying in three-dimensional crops, leading to regulatory authorization in 2019. Although UAVs show potential, current limitations include suboptimal deposition on grape bunches and lower canopy leaves, as well as uncertainties regarding drift and human exposure. The OptiSpray project seeks to enhance UAV application efficiency by systematically testing application parameters, novel atomisation technologies, and crop-specific adaptations. Complementary objectives include generating drift and exposure data through coordinated international trials, improving the reliability of biocontrol products via optimized application strategies and adjuvants, and evaluating risk mitigation techniques to safeguard the environment and residential areas. Anticipated outcomes comprise optimised application parameters, standardized assessment methods, and evidence-based recommendations for safer and more effective PPP use.
