The global trend towards the liberalisation of agricultural markets is exerting particular pressure on the Swiss agricultural sector, which is inherently a high-cost environment. As a result, the utilisation of the comparative advantages of the Swiss agricultural sector becomes a growing challenge that is also compounded by the steady increase in demands simultaneously placed on farmers by climate change, growing environmental awareness and the push for improved animal welfare. Research carried out in this field aims to highlight ways to improve market structures, create sustainable structures in the agriculture and food sector, and safeguard agricultural income by adapting production systems, making optimal business decisions and creating suitable framework conditions.
