Refining Agricultural Sector Models for Evaluating Policy Measures

Through international trade, the Swiss agricultural sector is involved in global markets. Likewise, Swiss agricultural policy is constantly being adapted, especially in the case of the direct payment system. Bearing in mind the cost background of the agricultural sector, Agroscope models the producer level and its production decisions. The aim is to quantify the effects of the agricultural-policy framework, price trends and changes in agricultural structure on the amounts of various foods produced and supplied domestically.

In so doing, Agroscope supplies information for the Swiss agricultural sector, and for the evaluation of agricultural and border-protection policy measures. The results of the project serve as a decision-making basis for policy-makers, agricultural-sector organisations, and practitioners.
