Project Title
Emission of Micropollutants from Agriculture into Surface Waters
Strategic Research Field:
Sustainability and eco-efficiency
Emissions from agriculture pollute surface waters not only with nutrients and plant protection products, but also with steroid hormones from livestock husbandry, and natural toxins such as mycotoxins or plant toxins.
The identity of these compounds, the extent of their input and the resulting exposure to which the surface waters are subject are largely unknown, and it is the aim of this project to shed light on these issues. For this, trace-analysis methods are being developed to quantify the levels of these compounds in the environment, and a series of field studies are being conducted. The data thereby collected serve as a basis for minimising the environmental risk posed by such compounds.
