Agroecological Production Systems
The predominant agricultural production systems in Switzerland – farming according to Proof of Ecological Performance (PEP), IP Suisse and organic agriculture – are not without their drawbacks. They need to be further developed in terms of their economic, social and ecological sustainability. With its research, Agroscope helps to optimise agricultural production, and hence plant protection according to agroecological principles. Agroscope also investigates and optimises new cropping techniques such as agrophotovoltaics, agroforestry and vertical farming under Swiss conditions. Together with various stakeholders, we develop practical production systems that take account of new societal concerns and reduce trade-offs to the greatest extent possible.
These six priorities are described in the FOAG's Research Master Plan for the Agri-food Sector (pages 37–39).
