Agriculture in a Changing Climate

Climate change is posing significant challenges for the Swiss agriculture and food sector: hot, dry summers and other extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. With research on new plant production and animal husbandry systems as well as the breeding of robust plants, Agroscope contributes to the continued productivity of the agricultural sector under changed climate conditions. This includes forecasting, efficient irrigation and protection from harmful invasive organisms. We develop and evaluate measures to further reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture as well as the negative environmental impacts of food.

These six priorities are described in the FOAG's Research Master Plan for the Agri-food Sector (pages 37–39).
