Field Trial with Cisgenic Potatoes: Sustainable Disease Resistance Sought
Agroscope is testing the use of new breeding technologies by cultivating a late blight-resistant potato cultivar in the field. Authorised by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), the field study serves as a basis for researching potato varieties containing no foreign DNA. These so called ‘cisgenic’ varieties reduce the need for plant-protection products and can better withstand extreme weather conditions.
From Field and Barn to Plate: Agroscope’s New Work Programme Places a Greater Focus on Impact and Practical Benefits
Agroscope’s 2026-2029 Work Programme addresses the most important challenges facing the Swiss agriculture and food sector, and agricultural practitioners in particular. The focus is on six key issues to be addressed by the research institute in 42 research programmes and around 360 projects. Areas such as plant protection, plant breeding, climate-change adaptation and economic efficiency will be strengthened.
Corinne Jud Khan named as new head of Agroscope
Corinne Jud Khan is the new head of Agroscope, the federal research institute for the agriculture and food sector. The Federal Council was informed of the appointment at its meeting on 27 August. Corinne Jud Khan will take up her post on 1 March 2026, succeeding Eva Reinhard, who will retire at the end of February.
Biodiversity in the Agricultural Landscape: Lessons from Ten Years of Monitoring
Agroscope has monitored the biodiversity of the Swiss agricultural landscape since 2015. Taken as a whole, the situation has not changed over this period. Individual improvements can be observed in the ecological focus areas in particular.
