MARVIC - A system for quantifying carbon sinks in Europe

Agroscope is a member of a European research consortium which is developing a new system to quantify carbon sinks in agricultural soils.

CO2 sinks in agricultural ecosystems are part of a portfolio aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture. In the EU Project MARVIC. Agroscope together with partners from twelve European countries is developing a system to monitor, record and verify changes in the carbon stocks of agricultural soils. A system of this kind is needed to comply with the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Certification (CRCF) Regulation. The team at Agroscope is tackling the issue of how to credit non-permanent carbon sinks.
