Erosion

Soil erosion is not only a soil-physical problem and damages soil fertility, but can also lead to water pollution if phosphorus is transported into water bodies with the eroded soil material.

The 2x2m-grid Erosion Risk Map of Switzerland (ERM2) was updated and optimised at the behest of the Federal Office for Agriculture in cooperation with the CDE of the University of Bern as part of a dissertation by Pascal Bircher. Since 2018, a new, significantly improved and user-friendly erosion risk map of arable land has been available for the enforcement of environmental and agricultural legislation. Two new tools for calculating the current soil erosion of individual plots have been developed.
