Environmental Impacts of Products and Production Systems
The environmental impacts of plant and animal products such as cereals, potatoes, milk and beef are calculated in different projects using the life cycle assessment (LCA) method. In this way, the sources of the environmental impacts as well as potential for improvement are identified.
The LCA method can be used to calculate and compare the environmental impacts of plant and animal products and production systems – to examine the differences between intensive and extensive production systems and measures for increasing production in terms of their environmental impacts, for example. In addition, the crucial aspects of the environmental impacts of livestock production systems are determined in order to increase the efficiency and sustainability of said production systems.
