Environmental Assessment of Agricultural Policy Scenarios and Sectoral Measures
Agricultural policy not only influences the framework conditions of the Swiss agricultural sector but also affects its environmental impacts, both in Switzerland and in other countries. It is therefore important to account for the environmental impacts along the entire value chain, both in Switzerland and abroad.
Agricultural policy measures and scenarios are numerous and varied, encompassing e.g. measures for climate and water protection, food waste reduction, and increased local production. Nevertheless, agricultural policy measures usually influence not just the direct target figure but also other aspects, including not least of all environmental impacts. Life cycle assessment studies make a valuable contribution to the assessment of the environmental impacts of agricultural policy scenarios and measures.
