Objective

To develop scientific principles and identify courses of action and solutions for agricultural policy and practice for sustainably reducing the risks of PPPs, and to verify the effects of the measures across crops.

• Specific objectives

  • Progress methods to assess the development of risks over time and verify the effects of implementing the action plan on yield stability, product quality, profitability and the environment.
  • Develop concrete courses of action for practitioners and agricultural policy makers to mitigate the risks of PPPs (especially high-risk pesticides like pyrethroids) while maintaining yield stability, product quality and profitability.
  • Evaluate agronomically and economically technical approaches aimed at reducing PPP application rates.
  • Evaluate PPP emissions from point and diffuse sources in the field.
  • Establish a coordination platform: monitor the state of research at Agroscope (and external partner organisations) and the state of implementation and experiences (acceptance) in the field.
  • Monitor the impacts on crop protection of reducing PPP use and the loss of active ingredients.

Expected outcomes

The reduction path is successfully implemented, the goals of risk reduction are achieved without any major loss of yield stability, quality and profitability. The risks of PPP use are defined/known and can be assessed, and the development of risks over time can be mapped. The effects of reducing pesticide use on yield, profitability, product quality and the environment are presented in different scenarios and enable decision makers to make sound decision about trade-offs. The competence platform enables crop-specific projects to be initiated based on the established need for action.
