Objective

To develop scenarios for agricultural practices adapted to local conditions (arable / livestock / speciality crops) and assess their agronomic, ecological and economic impacts in a spatially explicit manner that takes account of the needs of the food sector.

- Propose recommended actions for implementing site-adapted agricultural practices
- Develop spatially explicit solutions for site-adapted crop rotations, livestock management systems and speciality crops for specific regions as well as for Switzerland as a whole
- Analyse and model the agronomic, ecological and economic effects in a cross-sector, spatially explicit and continuous manner
- Perform pilot studies of crop rotations, livestock management systems and speciality crops (field-level) in selected regions, and environmental performance assessments (landscape-level) of regional and national business models (Switzerland)
- Evaluate options for the agricultural use of wetlands while maintaining their ecological advantages

Expected outcomes

The potentials and limits of resource-efficient, site-adapted crop and animal production are understood. Specific contributions for overcoming agronomic obstacles. This will uphold the sustainability of ecosystems whilst at the same time ensuring incomes and security of supply.

Mid-term goals: crop rotations, livestock management models and speciality crops adapted to local conditions are put into practice.
