From the wide range of international maize varieties on offer, Agroscope determines those which, from an environmental, economic and quality perspective, are most suitable for use in integrated cultivation systems under Swiss growing conditions. Annexe 2 of the Ordinance on Seeds and Plants serves as a basis for conducting the trial.
Agroscope communicates the results annually in a suitable form to the Federal Office for Agriculture, as well as to its partners and clients in practice, extension and science. Agroscope updates the lists with the recommended maize varieties annually, then publishes them jointly with the sector (swiss granum) and Agridea. In addition, Agroscope studies maize-like plants with a view to their suitability for cultivation in Switzerland owing to changing environmental conditions.
