Soya breeding

soja breeding

The Agroscope soya breeding programme began in 1981. Agroscope's breeders carefully select non-GMO soya varieties of different origins with complementary agronomic and quality characteristics. These parent plants are crossed and their progeny are observed in the field. Fifteen years of testing and observation are needed before a variety can be licensed. Every year Agroscope makes one or two new varieties available to Swiss and international agriculture. This “classical” breeding method improves many plant characteristics at the same time. It produces varieties that are adapted to Swiss climate conditions and also meet the specific needs of our market.
