Organic farming is an essential component of the "Multifunctionality of Swiss Agriculture" programme. Agroscope intends to support this form of farming and also wishes to promote its further development by research on the agro-ecological mechanisms and by making practical recommendations to organic farmers.

We are looking for solutions to technical problems in organic production in order to maintain soil fertility. This will enable farmers to grow healthy produce efficiently. To achieve this, we work concurrently with farmers and researchers of other institutions, particularly with the Institute of Research in Organic Agriculture (IRAB) in Frick.

We also study the effects of plant and animal production on the soil, water, air and bio-diversity. It enables us to highlight the ecological performance of agriculture and to offer procedures likely to enable it to progress even further.
