Technological Change – Importance, Challenges and Monitoring

technischer-wandel

Aims

  • To acquire knowledge on the possible implications of technological change as a decision-making tool for policymakers, in order to optimise framework conditions.
  • To explore and understand the various system levels. These range from individual technologies (e.g. automatic milking systems), to lines of development (e.g. technologies for improved environmental impact / animal welfare, comparison of agricultural production systems), through to development alternatives (e.g. investigation and evaluation of various individual technologies or lines of development with respect to their economic, environmental and social impact with the aim of highlighting alternatives).
  • To explore the reasons for or against the use of new technologies, in order to be able to make better predictions and take suitable measures (on behalf of the advisory, policy and research sectors).

Projects / Technologies

  • Technical progress and key work-economics figures
To record the use of smart-farming applications and the mechanisation and automation levels of Swiss farms in order to model and evaluate the savings in work economics brought about by new technologies.
  • Establishing the determinants of and barriers to the implementation of SF applications
To record and analyse the reasons why producers implement, or fail to implement, smart-farming applications on their farms.
