Detecting and Understanding Viral, Bacterial and Phytoplasma Diseases in Field Crops

Protection against Viruses, Bacteria and Phytoplasmas in Field Crops

The ‘Virology and Phytoplasmology’ group at Agroscope Changins diagnoses viral, phytoplasma and bacterial diseases of plants in all crops.  A national centre of excellence, we identify or anticipate serious epidemic or emerging diseases – often quarantine diseases – with the aim of protecting our crops, within a context of global warming and growing globalisation. To do this, we develop tools and diagnostic methods for work in microbiology, serology, molecular biology and genetics. Diagnosis and the necessary tools – reliable and internationally recognised – are essential for modern, sustainable plant protection, for both the environment and consumers.
