Weathering the Fallout from the Pandemic

Die Folgen der Pandemie überstanden

Swiss farmers were less hard-hit by the consequences of the pandemic than their colleagues in the neighbouring European countries. This is because farms in Switzerland are more diversified.

Together with research institutions in 11 different European countries, Agroscope surveyed farmers about the effects of the pandemic. The results show that farms with a high degree of intensification and specialisation were most likely to suffer from the economic consequences of the pandemic. Diversified farms as well as farms that were less dependent on external inputs suffered fewer negative effects, and in some cases even benefited.
