Petunias are popular ornamental plants. Available in many colours, including pink, red, purple, yellow, and black, they can even be found in a vibrant orange. At the end of April, genetically modified orange petunias were discovered in Finland; as a result, the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) tasked the Agroscope Posieux laboratory with the analysis of orange specimens of the flower available in Switzerland. The test results revealed that all of the analyzed orange petunias were genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Based on Agroscope's laboratory results, the FOAG has now decided that these petunias may no longer be marketed.
