Agroscope holds national responsibility for Swiss genetic resources. We coordinate a number of activities aimed at promoting the long-term preservation of our country's genetic resources. We also implement various activities aimed at promoting the characterisation of genetic material, to enable us to gain a more in-depth knowledge of it and thus give it extra added value.
We ensure the long-term storage of more than 10,000 species and varieties of agricultural crops multiplied by seed. The majority of accessions are Triticeae, wheat and similar. Other cereal species as well as vegetable and field crop species are preserved at Changins in cold rooms and freezers.
