Plant protection products protect plants from pests, diseases and weeds. They may, however, pollute the environment (air, water, soil) and put users, fauna and flora at risk. For this reason, they must undergo extensive evaluations.
Within the framework of the plant protection product authorisation, ART is testing the effects and side effects of seed dressing products in arable farming as well as those of fungicides and insecticides in hops. Having a sufficient effect is not enough on its own to secure the registration of a product; the use of a plant protection product must also be safe. For example, it must be ensured that the dust of seed dressings which gets into the air during sowing with pneumatic sowing machines has a safe formula, and therefore does not threaten bees from adjacent flowering field and fruit crops.
Our expert reports constitute an important decision-making basis for the authorities granting registration at the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) in Bern.
