Legislation has issued Agroscope important tasks to complete in the area of crop protection.

Quarantine
Support in avoiding the introduction and spreading of new pests and diseases in plants (quarantine organisms). In particular, Agroscope provides BLW and cantonal services with scientific competence.

Diagnostics
Definition of the cause of symptoms based on plant samples that have been sent in from official bodies, or the definition of unknown organisms.

Pesticide registration
Collaboration in assessing applications made by companies for approval of their pesticide. In this area, Agroscope is mainly responsible for checking their efficacy and ecotoxicological effects. Other aspects of the approval process are assessed by the Federal Office for Health and the Federal Office for the Environment.
