AWC's research work is intended to provide fruit growers with expertise on varieties, plant protection, physiology and economical data as well as breeding of new cultivars to enhance product quality, production efficiency and sustainability. that product quality as well as production efficiency and sustainability may be enhanced.
Berries, Medicinal Plants
In the context of Swiss agriculture, special crops such as berries and medicinal plants show a significant economic potential. Agroscope pays particular attention to the research and development aspects that favour sustainable production: varietal innovation, improvement of cultivation techniques, reduction of energy requirements for greenhouse crops, development of pest and disease control strategies, including biological control, and definition of product quality standards.
Vegetable Growing
It is an undisputed fact that vegetables play a crucial role in modern nutrition. Agroscope's research work is intended to provide vegetable producers with expertise on plant protection, fertilizing and cultivation methods, varieties and processing techniques so that product quality as well as production efficiency and sustainability may be enhanced.
Our extension projects are aimed at offering fast solutions to topical issues in applied vegetable growing. The research goals of those projects are being jointly determined by practitioners and AWC representatives on an annual basis.
Viticulture
Swiss viticulture is characterised by the high costs of production due to the topography of the vineyards and the structure of the production facilities, however they often make up landscapes that are greatly valued. To maintain its viability, Swiss viticulture must position itself as a producer of high quality products.
