Eco-friendly cultivation and sustainable plant protection are the prerequisite for marketable, high quality fruit and vegetables. On the one hand, there is increasing pressure on producers to reduce their costs in the deregulated environment. On the other hand, public and consumers demand eco-friendly production and healthy, unpolluted products. Based on the latest technologies, we develop methods for the diagnostics, prognosis and monitoring of insects, nematodes, fungal and bacterial diseases. We test varieties and develop cultivation and plant protection strategies that respect the economic needs of producers, the entitlements of consumers and protection of the environment. Preventive measures such as preventing the introduction and propagation of quarantine organisms, the use of healthy, certified plant material, or the breeding of disease-resistant varieties play a central role.
