Objectives of the Meeting

Agriculture and the food sector are responsible for a large share of the environmental impacts and resource use caused by human activity. For certain environmental issues, such as the conservation of biodiversity, agriculture is the key driver.

Three are the main objectives of the meeting:
• to show recent developments in terms of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology,
approaches, databases and tools related to the agri-food sector;
• to present applications of the LCA methodology in new case studies or case studies
showing new aspects in various food- and raw material- chains (crop production, animal
husbandry, fish farming, feedstuff, bio energy, etc.);
• to present successful examples of communication of LCA results to stakeholders and
their use in decision making in the agri-food sector.

History of the Conference

The successful series of meetings of the international scientific community started 1996 in Brussels and reached 2007 the 5th Edition in Gothenburg. Agroscope Reckenholz Tänikon (ART) and its LCA research group are happy to continue this series the next year in Zurich.

Host Organiser

Agroscope Reckenholz Tänikon, as part of the Unit of the Federal Research Stations (Agroscope), conducts research into environmentally compatible and economically competitive farming. Agroscope is part of the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOA) of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).
